Quarry Park Summer Concerts (Platinum Living Amphitheater Review Rocklin, CA)

|

Outdoor summer concerts aren't just for cities with large stadiums anymore. I'm sure by now you're used to me saying that Rocklin rocks it with what it offers its residents! My latest example of that is with the Quarry Park Concerts at the Platinum Living Amphitheater. Picture yourself going to a spot that is easy to find, has conveniently located parking, is large enough to seat people comfortably but small enough to feel like it's a small-town event. Now add to that listening to artists like Rodney Atkins, Jackson Michelson, and Big Sam's Funky Nation. Of course, don't forget that you'll probably be with your concert-loving sidekick-because everyone has at least one, right? Before I tell you about the talented artists performing as part of the Quarry Park Concerts, I'd like to share what the research says about the benefit of attending a music concert. Thank you in advance for giving me this opportunity to sing to the choir. Get it? You’re already fans of concerts and I'm going be telling you why concerts are a great thing? It'd be like me singing to a group of people who already love to sing? Oh man, I think this may be one of those examples of, "if you have to explain the joke, it may not be so funny."

It Really Is Science

In recent years, there's been a significant number of studies performed to tackle the question of what has more value to people: spending money to buy a material item or to experience a life event. While both acts begin with the satisfaction of making a purchase, which releases the "happy" hormone dopamine, subjects of the studies expressed greater satisfaction with an experience over owning the material item. In follow-up studies, subjects reported having very positive feelings when remembering the experience versus discussing the material item. So, given that attending a concert is an experience, what is it about the experience that’s enjoyable?

It's All Good

Why do people love going to concerts? Of course, there's the obvious fact that you’re listening to music you enjoy which helps, right? But beyond that, there's a social aspect to concerts that increase a sense of well-being. Being in the company of other people, with the intention of having fun, reduces the feeling of isolation. A perception of less isolation decreases the negative aspects of isolation; attending a concert creates a positive effect lasting longer than the concert itself. There’s also the general environmental pleasure derived from a concert because it involves all your senses, especially in an outdoor venue. Picture yourself sitting outdoors on a warm summer evening, where you’re neither too hot nor too cold. You're sitting surrounded by people who are all gathered for a fun experience, so there's a sense of good cheer in the air. You might be drinking a cold beverage and munching on your favorite concert snack. All this is happening while you’re listening to the tunes you love being performed by talented artists and broadcasted over an unbeatable sound system producing pitch perfect music. Now that's the concert experience that’s hard to beat. So who will you be listening to at this year's Quarry Park Concerts?

Rodney Atkins

On June 28, 2019, this country music star came to Rocklin. Seriously, with six No. 1 hits under his belt and over 13 million units of his music sold, he's someone you don't want to miss. Atkins is known for his songs which talk about the highways of life, love and family. His 2006 single, "Watching You" was named Number One Song of the Decade by Country Aircheck. He's had other big hits like "Caught Up in the Country", "Just Want to Rock n Roll" and "Lifelines." Opening for Atkins is Jackson Michelson who is no performing lightweight himself. Michelson has opened for Blake Shelton, Lady Antebellum and Zac Brown Band!

Big Sam’s Funky Nation

On August 10, 2019, a little bit of New Orleans's Bourbon Street comes to Rocklin with Big Sam's Funky Nation! If you're a fan of a concert that makes you want to get up and celebrate music, I think this is the one for you. Even at home, it's hard to listen to this band's blend of jazz, rock, hip-hop and a touch of creole without getting on your feet and dancing. Big Sam's Funky Nation has tons of talent and is known for rockin' the stage everywhere they perform. The band's leader, Big Sam, has over 20 years' experience playing with heavy hitters like Dave Matthews Band and recording with Elvis Costello. Big Sam's Funky Nation has performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Austin City Limits. For this concert, don't worry about where you'll be sitting because you'll be on your feet the whole time! Oh, did I mention that’s from start to finish of the whole evening? It is because opening for Big Sam’s Funky Nation is Sacramento’s own Sacramento’s Element Brass Band. This band is amazing and has twice been given accolade of 'Best in Jazz' at the Sacramento Music Awards!

The World’s Ultimate Elvis Concert

September 7, 2019 is a big day in Rocklin if you're an Elvis fan. For Elvis fans, attending a concert where his stage presence is accurately recreated is a pretty big deal. Justin Shandor is one of the best in the world of Elvis impersonation acts. Shandor is an international sensation having performed his show all over the world! He’s the only Elvis tribute artist who has made it to the front of USA Today and he’s even received recognition from the Jordinares (Elvis's own background singers). In 2010, Elvis Presley Enterprise held a contest and invited top Elvis tribute artists from around the world. Shandor came in first place and Graceland named him "World's Ultimate Elvis!" The World’s Ultimate Elvis Concert not only showcases Shandor's powerful voice, it consisting of horns, gospel singers, strings and a rhythm section that has cloned the music of Elvis's 1970's show. That's the amazing Las Vegas and Hawaii concert era!
