The World of Slime

The World of Slime

|

The Phenomenon of Slime was created way before it was introduced on social media. That's right, way back in 1943 James Wright and engineer for General Electric, is credited for inventing slime, although by accident, the first slime substance was created when he was trying to create a synthetic rubber substitute during WWII. He was mixing silicone oil and boric acid which eventually became the toy Silly Putty. From his accidental invention, this slimy substance continued to surface in toys, DIY projects, Children's game show. But its fame took off through social media influencers.

The World of Slime

Early Years of Slime

In 1979, this famous green goo debuted on TV networks like Nickelodeon. Its first appearance was on the show You Can't Do That ON Television. But this was not the actual recipe of slime, the show's recipe was made up of vanilla pudding, applesauce, oatmeal, and green food coloring. My guess is that they used this because it was not sticky as the original slime was. The original slime would stick to everything much like gum did, but far worse, today's slime has evolved and no longer makes messes of things but still beware the homemade kind if not made correctly, can wreak havoc.

Social Media Fame

In 1976, Mattel officially created and introduced it as a toy. The original version, which some of you may remember, was neon green and sold in a plastic trash can. In 2016, the modern homemade slime craze began. It all began in Thailand when teenage girls began posting slimy videos on Instagram. Influencer Karina Garcia, known as the Slime Queen, brought the trend to a massive global audience on YouTube and since then, many more influencers have been responsible for the Slime Craze.

Slime Factories

The slime world has become so popular that now slime museums and fun factories have opened across the country. These places have been created for the young and, believe it or not, the old alike. I wanted to see what this was all about, so I took it upon myself to go and visit one of these factories, and boy, it was a fun sensory overload.

Come along to be slimed with me……..

Sloomoo Institute Los Angeles CA

The World of Slime

I arrived at this fun bubble gum pink building it immediately made me smile. There were parents and grandparents with children in tow, everyone was so excited to see what was going to be inside. You enter through the doors and the sounds of ooh, ahhs and wow are seeping through the walls.

Once I was checked in, I was asked if I would like to slime the entry wall. It was this wall where slimers literally through slime on top of slime, it was quite beautiful, much like an art piece that one might see in a gallery, beautiful but don’t forget slimy…….

DIY Slime Bar

This was so much fun, you step up to the bar and create your own slime, but it was not easy, so many colors, scents, and charms to choose from, it made it very difficult to make my slimy decision.

Interactive Zones

Various sections of the institute have interactive zones. There were basins filled with different types of slimes in different colors, a room that has a large tray of kinetic sand, this is a dense like substance different from slime, drier so that you can build with it using fun molds that you can choose from. The little girl in me chose the castle mold.

Sensory Experience

It is a place of sensory overload in a good way, you are surrounded by vibrant colors, touch sight and sound, aromas of different kinds and textures that soothe the mind, so many great elements to this institute called Sloomoo.
