When most of us hear a siren, our first thought is, “I hope everyone’s okay.” For the firefighters of the Chino Valley Fire District (CVFD), it’s another opportunity to help a neighbor. Covering the cities of Chino and Chino Hills, these men and women do far more than fight fires, they teach safety in schools, attend local events, and quietly show up whenever the community needs them.
A Tradition That Runs Deep
The CVFD has been part of local life since 1895, when it started as a small volunteer company. Today, it’s a professional, highly trained department with multiple stations spread across the valley. Each year, firefighters answer thousands of calls—everything from medical emergencies to structure fires to hazardous material spills.

More Than First Responders
What many people don’t realize is that about 80% of the calls CVFD receives are medical. Firefighters are often the first on scene, performing CPR, stabilizing injuries, and giving lifesaving care until paramedics arrive.
But their work goes far beyond emergencies:
-
Fire Prevention & Education – If you’ve seen a CVFD crew at your child’s school teaching “stop, drop, and roll,” you’ve witnessed one of their prevention efforts firsthand
-
Disaster Preparedness – In earthquake country, readiness is everything. Firefighters run workshops and events to help families prepare for the unexpected.
-
Community Outreach – From open houses to holiday parades, they’re a familiar, friendly presence at local gatherings.

Specialized Teams
CVFD also has highly trained crews for specialized emergencies:
-
A Hazardous Materials Team to handle chemical incidents.
-
An Urban Search & Rescue Team skilled at pulling people from collapsed buildings.
-
Wildland Firefighters trained for California’s fast-moving brush fires.
Everyday Neighbors, Everyday Heroes
If you’ve ever seen a firefighter hand out helmets at the Chino Corn Festival, or help kids spray a fire hose at a community event, you know they’re not just responders—they’re neighbors. And when they’re called to a fire or a medical emergency, their courage and compassion make a lasting impact on the families they serve.

How We Can Support Them
One of the simplest ways to thank our firefighters is to do our part: keep smoke detectors working, know your evacuation plan, and take fire safety seriously. And of course, a wave or a thank-you when you see them out in the community always goes a long way.
The Chino Valley Fire District has been here for over a century, and their dedication hasn’t wavered. The next time you see those red engines rushing down the street, remember—inside are neighbors who have chosen to protect, serve, and care for this community we all call home.

Chino Self Storage
At Chino Self Storage, we love being part of the Chino community and supporting the heroes who make it safe and strong. Just like the firefighters of the Chino Valley Fire District, we’re committed to helping our neighbors. Whether it’s providing storage for families and businesses or contributing to local events. It’s inspiring to see everyday heroes serve our community, and we’re proud to play our part in keeping Chino a place where people and families can thrive.
