Nothing helps me start my day better than a good workout at my local gym. I especially love gyms with new and unique equipment, as well as a clean and friendly environment. Before heading to visit Arroyo Parkway Self Storage, I decided to check out Speakeasy Fitness in Pasadena, and WOW! It was like entering a whole new world! Tons of workout equipment as far as the eye can see, with an invigorating environment that would surely put you in a good mood to work up a sweat.
Upon entering the facility, I was greeted with smiles by the friendly front-desk staff. This gym is unique with a club-like aesthetic, dim psychedelic lighting and loud uplifting music to pump some iron to. This Pasadena location has three large sections filled with different workout equipment, most of them being brand new! This includes two air-conditioned rooms, and one conjoining outside shaded patio area for those who prefer working out in the fresh air. There are multiple cleaning stations provided in each room so you may easily sanitize equipment before and after use. They even have a cardio-theater room where they stream movies while you work out. Whether you’re new to the fitness world or a seasoned athlete, this gym has everything you need!
Cleanliness and Convenience
The staff is very friendly and helpful. You can often find them cleaning the facility and equipment, or at the front desk to assist you with any inquiries. There are two restrooms with lockers and showers, and a third ½ bathroom available. Oh, and did I mention they have a smoothie bar!? That's right; a fully stocked smoothie bar with cleverly-named blended smoothie combinations for all of your pre and post workout cravings. Occasionally, the baristas will bring around trays with smoothie samples, so you can enjoy a little treat with your workout. I sampled their Fruity Pebbles protein shake and it was delicious! They even offer instructed fitness classes on certain days, like Boxing and Bikini Boot Camp.
Speakeasy History
When the prohibition went into effect on January 17, 1920, thousands of formerly legal bars and saloons across the United States closed down. People who wanted to indulge in liquor had two options: to buy from questionable sources known as bootleggers or to visit unlicensed, private bars, aka speakeasies. The latter gains its name from the fact that you have to speak a password to gain access. This gym's clever adoption of the word is very fitting, seeing as they became established two years ago during the Pandemic, just shortly after a lot of gyms were forced to close their doors.
They started out with just a few pieces of equipment under pop-up tents outside in the parking lot, and had to keep their membership exclusive to abide by social distancing standards. Due to high demand from former gym-goers with a desperate need to maintain their fitness during a time of uncertainty, they were able to expand. They now have locations in Van Nuys, Sylmar, North Hollywood, Reseda, North Hills and soon Los Angeles; each with different amenities! Some of the locations offer a promotional free day pass for residents (within 7 miles distance of the facility). Memberships include all club access, so feel free to check them out!
