Animal Eye Center

There are so many services and businesses we pass by daily that we don't pay much attention to. But when we desperately need help for a loved one, we suddenly remember them and are grateful they were there all along. We need to have confidence in the care we seek, especially for our pets. While we have many options for human medical care, finding a specialist for our furry friends can be challenging. This is why Animal Eye Center is vital to our community. They offer specialized, compassionate, professional, and knowledgeable care for our beloved pets' eye health needs. Knowing they are there when we need them is reassuring.

"A Boston Terrier Led Me to Animal Eye Center"

Several years ago, my family and I were fortunate enough to adopt an adorable, quirky Boston Terrier. I suppose describing a Boston Terrier as adorable and quirky is redundant. Aren't they all that way?  Our little guy was a bundle of joy, always ready to play, especially with our other dog. But as they say, 'It's all fun until it isn't.' One day, our Boston injured one of his eyes while playing. It wasn’t a catastrophic injury, but any eye injury can escalate if not attended to professionally. In a moment of sheer panic, I remembered driving past a clinic called Animal Eye Center. The compassionate professionals at Animal Eye Center were able to take us in right away, treating our Boston and sending us home with a great prognosis and detailed after-care instructions. It was a relief to know that Animal Eye Center was there when we needed them. With the highest degree of confidence, I tell everyone that Animal Eye Center is the only place to take a beloved pet for eye care."

The Mission

Animal Eye Center is a practice limited to the veterinary care of diseases and eye surgery.  Their mission is to provide the most advanced veterinary ophthalmologic care using only board-certified veterinarians specializing in animal care and eye surgery.  While there are many great veterinarians in our community, Animal Eye Center is the leading healthcare facility offering top-of-the-line medical diagnostics and surgical procedures for eye-related diseases. As stated before, I've been an enormous believer for years in the top-notch service provided by Animal Eye Center. But because I haven't visited them in recent years, I wanted to come by and update my information.

I want to say that my former impression of Animal Eye Center stands due to all the same reasons I found this place to be exceptional back in 2001.  I learned this remains the leading healthcare facility for animal eye care and is busier than ever. The most popular service is cataract removal, followed by corneal ulcers, glaucoma, and a condition called uveitis (infection and inflammation of the eye).  Because of how common cataracts are in dogs, I asked for information about this condition to pass on to those who may benefit from early intervention.

Canine Cataracts

Just like humans, dog cataract refers to an opacity of the lens within the eye, which puts the dog at risk of vision loss and pain. It turns out that dogs and horses are the two most likely to have cataracts, although other species may develop the condition. Although the result may be the same type of treatment, the earlier a pet owner pursues evaluation with a veterinarian ophthalmologist, the better. Treatment varies from patient to patient. Some situations can be treated with topical therapies like eye drops. That doesn't prevent or reverse the damage in the disease process; it can ease pain and address issues of inflammation caused by the cataract. Just like with humans, surgery can be done to restore lost vision as the cataracts progress to a certain size.  But what does that look like, exactly?

Animal Eye Center uses a cataract treatment method called phacoemulsification followed by a lens implant. Phacoemulsification is a process that involves emulsifying cataracts using ultrasonic energy. Once the cataract fragments are removed, an artificial intraocular lens is implanted. Because of the many years of practicing animal eye care, you can rest assured that Animal Eye Center does a remarkable job with this surgery and other types of animal eye care. One indicator of an excellent specialty service is its years in practice.  Animal Eye Center opened in 1993 and remains highly regarded in the pet owner community. Because I've referred many people to them, I've received feedback from those I recommended Animal Eye Center. I've lived in Placer County for decades and know a specialty business will only last if it is excellent. I've never heard anything but big thanks and great outcomes from those I've referred to Animal Eye Center.  Please remember them should you need eye care for your pets. You'll be in great hands.
