Rocklin is a great community for many reasons, as its residents are centrally located near various places that offer great outdoor activities. Just two hours east makes it possible to reach the beautiful north shore of Lake Tahoe. Two hours west, you'll sit on the Pacific Ocean's beach. Go north of Rocklin to get some great and easy access to the Sacramento River and south if you want to visit California's Central Valley, its wide variety of lakes that call to anglers from all over the state. Of course, Rocklin is also located close to excellent fishing spots such as Folsom Lake, Camp Far West, the American River, and Sacramento's delta. It makes sense that Rocklin would be home to Fisherman's Warehouse, where you can meet all your fishing needs.
Fishing is No Joking Matter
Well, actually, that’s not true because fishermen are probably the creators of the original dad jokes. Why did the fish always know how much it weighed? Because it had its own scales! That's just a warm-up; wait until you see what I reel in next. I know that all sports, hobbies, and activities come with an arsenal of gadgets and tools related to them, but have you ever seen anything more intricate than a fisherman's tackle box? Fisherman's Warehouse is like stepping into that tacklebox plus panning out into everything related to that tacklebox. It stands to reason that Fisherman’s Warehouse has been a favorite with anglers for decades. While the Rocklin location is the newest of four stores in Northern Ca., the original store was opened over 35 years ago in Manteca, California. Short of a guarantee that you’ll catch whatever you’re fishing for, you’ll find everything else you want at Fisherman's Warehouse. Fishing is a huge deal in California, and our state has the highest number of paid fishing license holders in the U.S., with over 126 million fishing licenses sold in 2023. However, not all those licenses were sold to those wanting to catch fish. Crabbing is also a very big deal in this state due to California's 1,100 miles of coastline!
The System of Crabbing
I can speak firsthand once removed on the sport of crabbing because I'm married to an avid crabber. Crabbing, like any other type of fishing, is part science, luck, and patience. In my opinion, you must have all three to succeed. Crabbing season generally varies depending on several ocean-related factors, but recreational Dungeness crab season in California typically opens in November and ends in July. Crabbers start preparing crabbing by fussing with bait days before they hit the water. My husband has spent tons of time filling bags with marinated pieces of chicken and squid to which he eventually adds some type of small fish, and I don't know what else. I can only say that the process starts days before, and the clean-up is equally as colorful.
I'm fascinated by the process of recreational crabbing. First, like other types of fishing, crabbing is best during certain times of the day. Because crabbing is strictly done in saltwater, understanding the tides is essential. From what I've researched and witnessed, crabbing too long after the tide goes out and too soon before it comes back yields very little unless you count seaweed. Sometimes, the crabbing is best while standing on a rock jetty or walking out into the waves to cast the cage as far as possible. Each location is unique; therefore, what works well for one won't begin to work for another. Crabbing is a patient and ethical person's sport. There are strict guidelines about the time of year you can crab and the size of crab you can keep. It’s imperative to refer to the latest California Fish and Wildlife Crab Fishing Regulations for all current rules on crabbing. Crabbing, like other types of fishing, can be as involved or simple as you want to make it. No matter which kind of fishing you want to do, Fisherman's Warehouse has everything you need. So get over to Fisherman's Warehouse to catch the latest fishing gear. By the way, sorry, I told those bad fishing jokes. I feel gill-ty!
