Everyone likes a place where they're treated like family. As the saying goes, "a small town is like a family," and that's true of Loomis and its businesses. If you want to feel that first hand, please treat yourself to a delicious meal at LBB Gastro Pub and Brewing. Actually, treat yourself to a delicious meal, refreshing beer, and a great time at LBB Gastro Pub and Brewing. But despite the fact that you'll be appreciated and welcomed as family, that won't come at the cost of having a high-end, top-shelf experience. LBB Gastro Pub and Brewing has the finest of food, the highest of standards, and an ever-changing menu so that nothing becomes mundane. If you want to know how that's done, please read on to learn all about what I believe is a big city dining experience provided with a small-town heart.
Small Town Hospitality with Big City Food
The first time we visited LBB Gastro Pub and Brewing, it was a surprise to reconcile what my eyes saw with what my heart was feeling. Every single detail of this restaurant is designed to make diners feel relaxed, attended to, and invited to stay as long as desired. From the generous outdoor seating that's done picnic table style to the casual indoor tables, it feels like a place designed for diners to gather to socialize while enjoying great food. Beyond that, diners will see that each server takes time to chat and make excellent recommendations. The hospitality offered at the restaurant comes from the owner's philosophy that everyone they do business with is a friend.
Owners Kenny and Linda Gowan, along with Kenny's parents, have lovingly expanded on their craft beer brewing business after being told what they produced and how they did it was greatly needed. And so they went for it. Their philosophy was to handle everything and take care of their backyard. They provide an excellent product that they control from "grain to glass." They produce beers that bring everyone's needs into consideration, and best of all, they support their local community by using as many creative elements as they can from local growers. With their philosophy of supporting people as if they were friends, their beer crafting business has thrived. It is that same core value that creates the magic in their restaurant. Well, wait, that creates one element of magic in their restaurant. The other comes from some fantastic food. Here’s what makes it the perfect pairing for the excellent service found at LBB Gastro Pub and Brewing.
From Beaches to Summit
Kenny and Linda are no strangers to the foodservice industry. In 2006, Kenny partnered with Jon Mangini to create the successful Basic Urban Kitchen and Bar in downtown San Diego. When Kenny decided it was time to move back to his hometown area, he and his family started Loomis Basin Brewing Company and LBB Gastro Pub and Smokehouse. While they were busy doing that, Linda worked in San Diego's for Cohn Restaurant Group and gained experience in the customer service industry. Her experience in customer service, coupled with Kenny's commitment to that small-town hospitality, makes a winning combination. To put the final winning touch on their restaurant's offerings, they paired with Chef Alan Davis, an excellent chef who is highly sought in the restaurant industry. Kenny was familiar with Davis' work from their days of running a restaurant together at Donner Summit. When Kenny asked Davis to join him in providing that same level of culinary excellence at his new restaurant, Davis agreed, and the rest is LBB Gastro Pub and Brewing history.
Comfort Food in a Cozy Atmosphere
The Gowans strive to hit high marks on everything presented in their restaurant. From service to atmosphere to food, everything is equally on par to be the best their guests will find anywhere. Their goal is to provide fresh, quality, and inviting food. If you happen to be a smoked food fan, which I am, please know you won't find any better than at LBB Gastro Pub and Brewing! From their smoker that runs 24/7 from Tuesday evening through Sunday, each meat is smoked in-house and never reheated. This place has what they call a daily rebuild of the menu. Everything is prepared once ordered, sauces and specialty items are produced daily, and the motto is "Always fresh, always local." Read on for a sampling of what you have to look forward to at LBB Gastro Pub and Brewing.
I can speak firsthand to the Starters on the menu being enough to be full meals. Whether it's the Brewer's Platter with its assortment of artisan cheese, prosciutto, imported salamis, honeycomb, savory gherkins, roasted almonds, and pickled vegetable crudité jar along with grilled toasted points or the Smokin' Nachos, you'll need to share or take home these delicious starters. There's much more to choose from for starters, but these two are my personal favorites. The salads deserve a shout-out because there are several creative ones, all creatively made with the freshest of ingredients. Entrees are comfort food at its best. Everything is served with a choice of basin slaw, potato salad, fresh fruit, fries, or green salad. Now when I say everything, I'm referring to the smoked meat that is as good as that prepared by those who do nothing but smoked meat. Choices are pulled pork, brisket, tri-tip, bratwurst, ribs, or chicken. Each is served in various ways, including a Cuban Sandwich, Pub House Sandwich, a Vindicator Brat that's served on a fresh torpedo style roll, and of course, half and full rack of ribs. My favorite so far is the Dirty Grilled Cheese. If you love cheese, which I do, and you love smoked food, which I also do, then this is the thing to try first. LBB Gastro Pub and Brewing's high standards include serving fantastic bread. The Dirty Grilled cheese is pulled pork, which I substituted with chicken, with smoked white cheddar cheese on artisan swiss German bread! Every bite was absolutely amazing, and I believe that could be said for any meal choice.
Of course, there LBB Gastro Pub and Brewing has a full bar loaded with great beer and other delicious drinks. Not only was the food and beverages wonderful (as promised), but the service was second to none, and yes, the place is cozy. Please put LBB Gastro Pub and Brewing on your list of great places to eat, drink and be happy. You won’t regret it.
