La Huaca Food

La Huaca Peruvian Cuisine (Roseville, CA)

|

In the words of Philip Rosenthal, "A good restaurant is like a vacation; it transports you, and it becomes a lot more than just about the food." If you want to know exactly what that description feels like, I ask you to please visit La Huaca Peruvian Cuisine. I have said it before, and I know it won't be the last time I say it here. Roseville is a community created to cater to all tastes, styles, and situations. One of the places that it's evident is in the vast choices of eateries. From the deliciously casual to upscaled fine dining, Roseville has it all. La Huaca Peruvian Cuisine is not only fine dining; it's been described as the type of restaurant you expect to find in San Francisco.  Given that San Francisco is the highest watermark for restaurants on the West Coast, it speaks volumes for La Huaca Peruvian Cuisine. Please read on to learn why you need to visit this incredible eatery.

A Cuisine of the Opposites

There are a few times I'll say that I wish that I was in the shoes of someone who was about to experience something for the first time. The reason being that you only get that first time excitement once. No matter how fun Disneyland is, for example, you only get that overwhelming magical feeling of your very first visit there once. I'd say that visiting La Huaca Peruvian Cuisine for the first time qualifies as one of those times I wish I were visiting with that first time feeling again and again. Let's talk about each reason why—first the food. Peruvian food is a cuisine of opposites: acidic excitement melding with starchy calmness, cold with hot all on the same plate. It's delicate and bold, with balance in each food choice.  Peruvian food relies on complex spices with bold flavors from the very heavy and deep to the very crisp and clean. Each flavor type is used to counter and "tame" its opposite. This wonderful dance happens because the country of Peru has a rich culinary heritage with cooking techniques derived from Europe, East Asia, and Africa.  And now we're able to enjoy that heritage here in Roseville thanks to La Huaca Peruvian Cuisine. To dine at this beautiful restaurant is to visit Peru with your mind and your mouth.

Gracious Service and Superb Goodies

The first thing you'll notice when entering the front door of La Huaca Peruvian Cuisine is that this is a place that has taken the time to pair its cuisine with its décor--not just in theme but in quality. From a collection of Peruvian Cusco Handmade dolls to a llama statue in the entryway, this restaurant's tasteful design includes touches of Peru everywhere you look. We were even fortunate enough to have a Peruvian waiter who took great care to give us suggestions on appetizers, entrée, and dessert choices. Each recommendation was made with a description of what we might like about each of the dishes we chose. Because our first visit was during a slower part of the day, we were able to spend time talking with our server about his life in Peru and what he was enjoying about living and working in Roseville. He wanted us to know that working at La Huaca Peruvian Cuisine was a great part of his life because the restaurant owners are wonderful people. Our server's food suggestions for us were terrific, and fortunately for us all, the menu is extensive, so there will be many more firsts for us when returning. So, what about the food? Well, let me give you a taste of the treat you have to look forward to.

As Delicious as it is Beautiful

Our first meal at Lahuaca Peruvian Cuisine was perfection on a plate. I give the food as high of marks as the service.  Gastronomy enthusiasts, or foodies by another name, agree that Peru has recently become the gastronomical capital of Latin America, and it's largely due to the dish called ceviche. As already stated about Peruvian food in general, this dish is simple and complex. Our server stated that a person has to start with ceviche to say they've tried Peruvian food. Now as far as the origin of this extremely popular food, it's unclear whether ceviche began in Peru or Ecuador. This food is now so popular in Peru that it's inspired a national holiday.  The most important ingredients in Peruvian ceviche are the Peruvian lime, the aji Amarillo pepper, the rocoto pepper, canchitas (large corn nuts), and yuka potato, onion, and of course, seafood. Very fresh seafood, to be exact. And that's precisely what we had at Lahuaca Peruvian Cuisine!  Ceviche at this excellent eatery leaves nothing to be desired. It's well chilled, seasoned with each ingredient being crisp, fresh, and well balanced in just enough sauce. To be honest, I could have ordered the largest ceviche size and made it my entire meal. It was that delicious.

But to give ourselves a taste of each category of food, we also ordered a seafood plate called Jalea Mixta, which included deep-fried fish topped with breaded shrimp and calamari. This was served with yucca fries and four sauces that are absolutely too wonderful to describe.  We also ordered a yuccas sampler, and to our surprise, the meal was served with rolls fresh out of the oven and yet another style of sauce also too wonderful to describe. Please notice that I haven’t covered additional attributes like a full bar, Friday's live music, and great specials throughout the week such as Monday Ceviche Day, Sundays kids eat free, and Seniors 20 % off Monday through Thursday. These are just a few of the specials. Lahuaca Peruvian Cuisine is a place that really needs two reviews to do it full justice. Please don’t let more time go by without making a special occasion up in your life so that you can eat at one of the finest eateries Roseville has to offer. In fact, you don’t have to make a special occasion up but instead, make the special occasion the dining experience itself.
