Mathnasium (Roseville, CA)

How many of us can recall that feeling of walking into the classroom on the first day of school? Granted, some years may be associated with more positive emotions and others with less; some memories of certain classes bring up feelings of glee and others some angst. The thing that's so profound is that we tend to repeat these feelings when it comes to the classes of our own children. For me, math class is the one that always brought up feelings of insecurity, and the same is true as I faced the math classes of my children. If you can relate to what I'm saying, I can say there's a solution to how your feeling that is a win/win for all involved. Mathnasium is every parent's math solution dream! Read on to learn why.

Mathnasium Roseville, CA

The Foundation of Math and Mathnasium

I have a feeling we've all either said the words or heard them, "Why is math important"? Experts in the field of math education answer this very methodically, as you would expect. Math is essential to our society and world. The knowledge of math is transferrable to numerous situations in science, engineering, and technology. Additionally, learning how to manage math helps develop foundational skills such as analyzing data, recognizing patterns in everyday situations, and seeking evidence. Math helps with critical thinking, the arts, culinary skills, and interpreting general information we don't usually attribute to having a foundation in math. Educational experts say that the importance of math applies to all career fields, no matter what the industry or field.

In the 1990s, Peter Markovitz and David Ullendorff recognized the importance of math to those who are successful students. As pioneers in the education industry, they believed strongly that there was a disconnect between students learning skills and the math curriculum taught in school.  That fundamental belief is what prompted Markovitz and Ullendorff to found and open Mathnasium in 2002.

Showing the Math

After years of researching the need for offering help with math outside of the traditional classroom setting, Ullendorff and Markovitz began working with a renowned expert in the field of education. As an educator, teacher trainer, and curriculum consultant, Martinek was instrumental in developing Mathnasium's comprehensive curriculum, which is now trademarked as the Mathnasium Method. Within a year, Mathnasium proved to be highly successful and began franchising. It is no surprise that Roseville, a community always striving to offer the gold standard of family living, is home to Mathnasium.

One of the wonderful things about Mathnasium is that it helps kids learn in ways that make sense to all learning styles. Mathnasium uses a combination of visual, tactile, mental, verbal, and written techniques as part of the education strategy. Martinek has over 40 years of experience that went into designing the Mathnasium Method. The curriculum focuses on giving kids the confidence to build their number sense in a way that fosters their understanding of math. Mathnasium's strategy is not to present math to each child in only one way but rather to pinpoint each child's skills and knowledge and formulate a curriculum from those strengths. After a thorough assessment of each child skills and strengths, a curriculum is created that gives each child a way to master the magic of math.

The Mathnasium School of Math

Mathnasium is a math learning center focusing on significantly increasing student's math skills. Children typically attend the center weekly with a membership program paid for on a monthly basis. Mathnasium helps children from early education through high school. Elementary school-aged children work one on one using a combination of visual, written, tactile and verbal exercises. Mathnasium's exercises not only meet state math standards but also surpass the Common Core State Standards and those set by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The curriculum is designed to create life-long fluency in math with each child's individual strengths at the center of the custom curriculum. It's the goal of Mathnasium to gain a substantial introduction that helps them experience a lifelong mastery of math.

Middle School is often a place where children face increased difficulties with math. But at Mathnasium, children engage one on one with instructors who help them master computation, fraction, decimals, percents, and problem-solving. This ensures a solid foundation for higher levels of geometry, trigonometry, advanced algebra, and pre-calculus. Mathnasium's high school program combines mastering algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus with preparation for high school-aged students' examinations.  Mathnasium focuses on preparing for high school exit exams, standardized college entrance exams, as general college placement exams. From the end of high school to the vital SAT and ACT exams for college, Mathnasium students have the advantage of being well prepared for the path they choose. If you're like many of us who want to give our child every opportunity to master math, see how Mathnasium may be your perfect solution.
