The Range (We Love Roseville Restaurants and Businesses!)

|

The next time you want to treat yourself to a dining experience different from the rest, please don't hesitate to eat at Range Kitchen and Tap. What's been described as a solid dining experience that impresses even the most discerning of diners, Range Kitchen and Tap is a place causing a big buzz in the Roseville dining out community. Read on to find out why.

Industrial and Rustic is a perfect choice

Range Kitchen & Tap has been opened over two years and has remained the dining talk of the town since opening in February of 2018.  The goal of its owner, Kevin Kokoszka, is to offer a hub that's appealing to families and the late-night dining crowd. A self-described long time veteran of the Bay Area restaurant scene, Kokoszka relocated to Roseville with his wife and daughter. In fact, they moved to a neighborhood not far from where Range Kitchen and Tap is located.  Wanting to create a welcoming gathering place for neighborhood families, Kokoszka's vision has come to fruition with Range Kitchen and Tap.  It's a popular place that mixes a city vibe with a rustic country pace. Range Kitchen and Tap combines raw, industrial accents with lots of warm wood and tall windows. It gives the illusion of being in city space with country warmth. It's perfect!

Food For All Tastes

The Range Kitchen and Tap has a menu the speaks to every diner's taste.  As a hub for casual, relaxed, family friendly dining, you'd expect a menu that makes that possible. Well, your expectations will be met and exceeded at The Range Kitchen and Tap.  The food there is meant to be shared while dining and socializing. To make it even better, food is locally sourced and billed as comfort food. Here are a few items you have to look forward to when dining at The Range Kitchen and Tap.

Of course, let's start with appetizers. I learned by far that one of the favorite appetizers is the Boar Bacon Artichoke Dip.  Made with precisely what it sounds like, boar bacon, this appetizer also contains cream cheese, fresh herbs, and artichoke hearts. A second favorite is the Bison Meatball Sliders. Also made with precisely what it sounds like, bison meat, these sliders are glazed and served on a brioche bun along with fried jalapenos and beer cheese.  Now part of what the Range Kitchen and Tap aims to do is to serve comfort food with an upscale twist, and so it does.  The Mac and Cheese is a cheese lover's work of art with a hefty medley of fontina, cheddar, parmesan, mozzarella, and American cheeses combined with orecchiette pasta and topped with freshly baked herbed bread. Of course, no comfort could be properly achieved without some Fried Green Tomatoes.  These perfectly deep-fried tomatoes are served with tomato jam, creole tomato aioli, and dill crème Fraiche.  To say "yum" is to be severely understated.

I've only named a few starters worth starting with. Along with appetizers, The Range Kitchen and Tap serves salads, but the huge deal is the entrees. Keeping in mind that this is a place wanting people to be comfortable while having fun, it stands to reason that one of the most popular entrees is Mom's Meatloaf.  From what I've been told, it is the meatloaf that holds the bar up very high for others to reach.  Another entrée that seems to get big billing in the favorite's department is Pork Porterhouse. Grilled after sitting in a bourbon brine, it's served with melt-in-your-mouth potatoes, chard, and topped with apple mostarda. I personally didn't order this but was with someone who did. I learned that mostarda is a lovely chutney-like condiment that contains diced apples cooked with currants and some type of citrus along with sugar and mustard essence. The result is a savory topping that works beautifully to compliment how the Pork Porterhouse is grilled.

As with the appetizers, I've only highlighted a couple of menu items in this category. There's also fried chicken, scallops, wild game of the week and fresh catch of the day. These last two are limited in quantities and subject to seasonal rotation.

Home on the Range

While Range Kitchen and Tap is a place for families to enjoy a relaxing meal, it also has a tap and vine section that pairs well with their pizzas. With six different pizzas, all curated to highlight ingredients locally sourced, the bar area can be a place to eat while enjoying the products of local wineries and breweries.

The pizza at Range Kitchen and Tap is consistent with the rest of the food fare.  Each one is made to highlight the fresh and locally sourced ingredients available in the Roseville area. Starting with The Range, which is centered around the local farmer market finds. It's a pizza that is ever-changing and delicious every time, I'm told. The Forager is centered around roasted wild mushrooms, goat cheese, mozzarella, and bacon lardons. For those who are wondering what a bacon lardon is, I can tell you that it's a homemade bacon bit. If you get anything with bacon lardons at Range Kitchen and Tap, you’ll be in for a real treat. I hear they’re worth asking for even if they're not on the pizza you order. Of course, since the Range Kitchen and Tap focuses on food sourced from the local area, there's The Cured, which will have the chef's selection of cured meats along with mozzarella and parmesan cheese.

The bar itself is a very comfortable area that's a natural extension to the dining room.  In one large space, the bar and dining room come together in a way that makes everyone at home at the Range Kitchen and Tap.  Whether you choose the dining room or bar area, either will make you want to relax and enjoy the great food offered at the restaurant that’s meeting its goal of being a great neighborhood restaurant.
