If you are like me, I work hard at being the one to introduce the newest bussin' place to my friends and family circle. So when I saw my latest favorite, Adoboink, I knew I was about to gain points for this find. This place is extra extra (if that's a thing) for fresh, delicious food. And if you're already a fan of Filipino food, you'll be happy to know Adoboink is as good as it gets. Read on to be even more in the know.
Filipino Food For All
I love it when heritage, culture, and deliciousness collide. That's the best way I can describe the dining experience at Adoboink. Owners Ramses and Maylani Monterola moved into the area in 2018 and noticed a serious lack of Filipino food. Ramses would often be asked to cook for events, and this became a catering business. The couple took a full-service catering success and expanded it into a dining experience that has created a buzz within the Roseville dining scene! And about the name? Adobo is a Filipino cooking style; the rest is a play on words. While the name's uniqueness makes it hard to forget, it's the food that's made it my GOAT find. Well, at least GOAT2025.
On my first visit to Adoboink, I saw that the menu contained traditional dishes with a fun flair. Here's an example. I love lumpia and have family who married into the Filipino culture. Thanks to that marriage, I've tasted some of the best lumpia prepared in the old-fashioned way based on the family's secret recipe. We're talking so authentic and proudly held under lock and key that only the preparers were allowed in the kitchen during the lumpia production hour. It was the kind of food that was offered rather than served, handed to you rather than plated. That's the amount of pride and mystique that went into the family lumpia. Over the years, I've tried to deconstruct it, studied it, and even made off with a roll in my purse for later inspection, only to fall short of the real deal of deliciousness.
Thanks to Adoboink, I no longer have to wait months to taste the same high-quality lumpia. Thanks to Chef Ramses, lumpia is just a few minutes into the future. Here's the really neat thing about Adoboink: it offers that whole fusion scene to the food. Instead of lumpia created in the traditional roll style, Adoboink showcases its lumpia with an artistic flair. Instead of a roll style, lumpia is created in an open blossom wrapper. It's beautiful and delicious. That's just one of many delicious offerings found at Adoboink. There's more, so read on.
Celebration is Central
The Filipino culture is known for its love of family and celebrations. Food is a key element in the expression of that love and occupies a sacred place in the culture. Food demonstrates the cultural hospitality, love, and spirit of community; therefore, it is an expression of warmth and happiness. Filipino food has been described as spirited, with a lively mix of tanginess, salt, sweetness, and heat.
While the dining area of Adoboink is small, its authentic, fun ambiance and great food are well worth the wait time you may have before being seated. And once you're seated, prepare to feel the love in each fantastic bite of whatever you dine on. If you've never had Filipino food before, here are some hints to help you take the plunge. Adobo is the iconic dish often considered the national dish of the Philippines. It shows up as representing the multi-cultural influences of Filipino food. Adobo goes back to the Indigenous Filipinos' use of salt and vinegar for food preservation in a tropical climate. Then, with Chinese traders in the 9th century came the introduction of soy sauce. Then the whole thing evolved into a cooking method that involves braising pork or chicken with soy sauce, vinegar, bay leaves, peppercorns, and garlic and then simmering. This dish is typically served with a generous side of garlic rice. Breakfast is known to be a large meal in the Philippines, and Adoboink's breakfast offerings are proof of that. These are the silogs, which take savory meat and a large rice side and add a fried egg. Alongside that are sweet cherry tomatoes that balance out the color and texture of these gorgeous dishes. Incidentally, Adoboink offers several vegetarian dishes, so no one needs to feel left out of the deliciousness.
But Don't Forget Dessert!
Adoboink presents desserts that are popular in Filipino culture and strike a perfect balance that all can appreciate. My favorite recent discovery comes in the form of ube. Ube is a purple yam-like "sweet potato" that's not only beautiful but is complex in a subtle way. If you want to taste how that's possible, order Adoboink's Ube ice cream. It's a beautiful purple color that, while vibrant in color, is subtle in its flavor components. It's just mildly sweet with distinct nutty undertones and a hint of vanilla flavor. This is all natural to ube so the ice cream is refreshingly natural tasting. It's delicious! If you're in the mood to try something more striking, go for halo halo, sweetened condensed shaved ice milk with fruit and gelatin. Halo halo means mixed, so you get a nice variety of flavors and textures with this one. So far, these are two of the five desserts I've tried. Lucky for me, I get to go back to try more. Lucky for you, Adoboink is conveniently located in the wonderful community of Roseville. This place is going to be your fav for dining in or for full service catering your next special gathering.
