Is it your turn to coordinate a girls' night out? Do you need a gift for someone who seems to have everything? Are you searching for a memorable team-building activity? Candle Bar in Historic Folsom checks all those boxes and more. Candle Bar is a unique Historic Folsom destination that doesn't simply sell candles, it offers the experience of creating them. Between the shop's calming décor and its beautiful location, even visiting Candle Bar feels like a gift to yourself. It's also a wonderful place to create a unique gift and memorable experience. Please read on to learn more about what makes this place so special.

A Creative Experience in Historic Folsom

One of the defining characteristics of Historic Folsom's Sutter Street is its collection of businesses offering products and experiences that simply can't be replicated online. Candle Bar takes that concept a step further. Although I couldn’t participate in a class during my visit, I explored the retail offerings and learned about the candle-making experience from the staff. I can hardly wait to attend a class here. This experience is ideal for anyone seeking a creative activity in Historic Folsom. It’s the candle-making equivalent of paint-and-sip studios, pottery workshops, cooking classes, and DIY craft experiences. Guests leave with both a custom candle and the memory of making it. Perfect for those of us who want to spend money on experiences and not just products.

Clean Burning Candles

Candle Bar aligns perfectly with today’s growing interest in the ingredients found in the products we use, breathe, and bring into our homes.  Candle Bar uses soy as the main ingredient for its candles. While paraffin is still the most common candle base worldwide, it has drawbacks that soy avoids. Soy wax is made from soybeans, a renewable resource that burns slowly, produces minimal soot, and delivers excellent fragrance performance. Because soy wax burns at a lower temperature, soy candles often last 30-50% longer than comparable paraffin candles. The soy used for Candle Bar’s candles produces a very high-quality candle at an affordable price. I have to say, I didn’t know much about soy candles, but after my visit to Candle Bar, I was surprised to learn how many advantages soy candles offer.

Soy candles gained popularity as several consumer trends converged.  One factor was the growing consumer interest in natural products.   At the same time, candles evolved from emergency light sources into tools for creating ambiance, which also increased awareness of soy-based candles. And finally, a third contributing cause of the popularity of soy as a candle ingredient is the popularity of artisan candles. Soy is particularly well suited to small-batch artisan candle making. It’s much easier to work with because it melts and pours easily. That’s a key ingredient in what allows Candle Bar to offer guests the choice of making their own candles.

Making a Candle at Candle Bar

The first thing to do for your candle making experience is to book a class online. If you want a solo experience, it’s easy to grab an available seat. Sessions are 90 minutes long and include everything needed to make your unique candle. The process itself is simple, but the creativity potential is endless. First, guests select a candle vessel from the curated collection of simple yet elegant options. The next step is choosing a fragrance from a sample-based menu that ranges from comforting favorites such as cinnamon and vanilla to sophisticated blends inspired by cocktails, seasonal ingredients, and artisan perfumery. Next comes the most creative part of the process: personalization.  Decorative elements include dried orange, lemon, and lime slices, pressed and dried flowers, crystals, and glitter. While the candle begins to set, you can relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the workshop. You leave with a beautiful product and a full heart because candle-making is   just one part of what’s happening when you make a candle at Candle Bar.

The other part is that you’re helping owner, Sonia Munoz, continue to support Project Hope Center. Sonia and her twin sister began making candles together as part of their volunteer efforts at Project Hope Center. Project Hope Center is a nonprofit organization that mentors and supports women rebuilding their lives after incarceration. When you make a candle at Candle Bar, you’re not only experiencing a fun activity, but you’re also supporting opportunities for second chances. Because Project Hope Center is located in Folsom, the impact Candle Bar has on its local community couldn’t be more immediate.

I can't think of anything more rewarding than having a creative experience that results in a beautiful product while also supporting a local cause. But don’t just take my word for it. The best way to appreciate Candle Bar is to experience it for yourself.
