Most people don’t think twice about their water—until they taste the difference. Or perhaps more accurately, until they experience the difference, because taste is only part of the story. After exploring one aspect of wellness through soaking and cold plunges, I found myself unexpectedly drawn further into the world of water. I visited Everspring and had an unexpectedly eye-opening experience. Everspring opened my eyes to the complicated and simple element called water in our lives.
What Makes Everspring Water Different
I have to say that I’ve been a middle-of-the-road water person for years. For a variety of reasons, I haven’t embraced the idea of bottled water but also haven’t trusted tap water completely. I’ve dabbled in purified water but never dove deep, until now (yes, puns will be flowing here). To fully understand how many of us have arrived at what we think of water today, it’s useful to go back to when water even became something to give thought to.
The modern hydration culture didn’t begin all at once but rather hit in waves. It started in the late 1970s when water became branded. Water went from something that is utilitarian to a sophisticated alternative to soda or alcohol. Someone drinking a bottle of Perrier meant that person was chic, healthy and discerning. This person wasn’t just quenching thirst; this person was practicing a lifestyle that included water for the wellness-focused person. By the early 2000s, portable plastic bottles had transformed water into something people carried everywhere. The wellness movement also added to the picture by highlighting the importance of hydrating. And last, but never least, has been the reusable culture. Each of these factors caused the move from what water was in society to what it is now. At Everspring, every aspect of water—from original source to your mouth—is considered. Read on to learn what those aspects are. If you’re like me, you’ll be surprised at how much you haven’t considered.
Water and Wellness
On my first visit to Everspring, I was fortunate enough to get a tour from David, one of Everspring’s two owners. He said that he and his wife opened the store to bring a wellness-focused approach to purified water in the area. With a couple of decades of working in the health care profession, David said that he realized he wanted to be on the other side of health by promoting wellness rather than treating what happens when something goes wrong. David and his wife have always shared a philosophy that everyday routines can be made healthier, cleaner, and more intentional and Northern California is the place to live that in all ways. In fact, one wall of the store is dedicated to a beautiful mural of Mount Shasta which is where Everspring’s water is sourced. As a Mt. Shasta enthusiast myself, I instantly understood that. In addition to having an incredibly discerning standard for where the water is sourced, David has put countless hours and money into researching every aspect that affects the quality of water. From higher than industry-standard testing to top of the line filtering equipment, the store reflects an usually high standard for creating drinking water. Even knowing as little as I did about drinking water, I knew what I was seeing was so different from other water providers. The filtration system used is the most comprehensive one used in the industry. Anything that comes into contact with the water is rigorously tested to ensure it leaves behind no residue or contamination. Customers are invited to learn about what goes into creating the water produced at Everspring and to taste the difference in what’s offered. From alkaline and pH levels to the type of vessel they take it home in, ways to customize the perfect experience are encouraged. All choices lead to promoting the use of water for wellness. Customers are not only encouraged to feel and taste the difference, but first-time customers are also sent home with up to 10 gallons of free water so that they can do a side-by-side comparison with their current water. David said, and I see that now, that the proof of the water’s quality isn’t just in the taste, it’s in how you feel after drinking it for a while. He said he hears customers say repeatedly that they feel better after using Everspring water.
A Realist about Water
One of the many things I appreciated about my conversation with David is that he explains things with a well-rounded perspective. While David clearly knows the subject deeply, he does say things like, “Are people feeling good because the water tastes better so they’re drinking more water? There’s no way to prove that but ultimately, they feel better and that’s the goal. Another realistic perspective David shares when talking about his passion for excellent water is that he sees the value in other things people do to promote wellness. By no means does David imply that drinking Everspring water is the best and only answer to gaining and maintaining wellness. Every point he made about Everspring was balanced by offering a well-rounded perspective for the bigger picture of wellness and, in fact, health care in general. When I listen to someone who believes enough in their product to not discredit the value of other aspects used to reach the overall goal, I listen with an open mind. I highly recommend going to Everspring to learn about a wonderful alternative to your current drinking-water source. I know without a doubt, you’ll be impressed right down to the last drop (last pun alert!).
