Your Gardening Ally
I love the feeling of shopping in a place that goes all out to provide great products at reasonable prices with fantastic guarantees in a welcoming environment. Green Acres checks all those boxes for me. Because I love plants but know nothing about them except what I like to look at, I appreciate a place that helps me make good choices for the environment I have in my home and yard. Green Acres staff are knowledgeable, approachable, and invested in wanting the best for their customers. With such a large variety of outdoor and indoor plants, it's amazing how much staff knows about everything Green Acres sells.
Everything You Need
I’ll start by saying that Green Acres has top-quality things that grow in dirt. You'll find annuals and perennials for all the blooming seasons of the year, ground cover, ornamental grasses, bulbs, succulents, vegetable plants, and herbs, of that have no fear. There are shrubs of all sizes and trees of many a kind; vegetable plants and herbs, vines and roses are just the start of what you'll find. But wait, if you think there can't be more, there's pottery, patio furniture, and grills all located in this amazing store. And just when you’re sure you've appreciated everything big and small, you learn that Green Acres loves dogs, one and all!!! Read on to learn a bit more about what makes Green Acres great!
Roots From Two Families
Green Acres is a local family-owned chain that's been growing in the greater Sacramento area since 2003. Owned by the Gill family, the Green Acres way is to source the best products using local vendors whenever possible. One major vendor for Green Acres is another family with a long history in the plant nursery scene, Eisleys. Eisleys has been a family-owned, local nursery serving the region with excellent plants, shrubs, and trees for decades. Although the Eisley family sold its Auburn-based business to Green Acres, the family has retained the property and provides a large percentage of Green Acres' vegetables and annuals.
Classes, Special Events and a Resource Library
One of the comforting things about shopping at Green Acres is knowing that what’s sold there is vetted for our area. If it can’t survive in Northern California, it won’t be sold at Green Acres in Elk Grove. For me, that buries three quarters of the stress of shopping for plants and trees. Green Acres offers in-person and online classes to help those who want to learn more about what to buy and how to take care of what is bought. From topics like “Learn to Grow Veggies in a Container” to “Irrigation Tune-Up”, whatever you need to increase your chances of success is addressed with you shop at Green Acres. If you want to dig in and learn more about what to buy and how to care for it once it’s yours, Green Acres maintains a great resource library sprawling with all sorts of information. I turned to the resource library to learn what to plant to support pollinators.
It turns out it’s possible to create beautiful surroundings that require very little water yet help support local pollinators! Pollinators love the California Poppy! Talk about something that’s easy to grow. The California Poppy is a perineal herb that became the state’s flower in 1903. Also known as the Golden Poppy, this plant provides abundant pollen, is very hardy and self-seeds. When its seed pods pop open, it sends over 100 seeds flying over six feet away from the original plant! Even after its blooming season is over, its vibrant green lacy foliage remains a beautiful part of your yard. Armed with that information, I had fun sorting through the Green Acres seed packet section to start my pollinator garden section. Did I mention rosemary, lavender, sage and salvia attract all sorts of pollinators? I loaded up on those as they also are easy to grow. I made my purchases with the confidence that I could ask for more help when needed and all purchases come with a money-back guarantee. Green Acres is a great place to shop and one that has earned its reputation for excellence.
Moving into a new home comes with the opportunity to create beauty around you. It can be an exciting time, from decorating with houseplants to landscaping a whole yard. At Harbour Point Self Storage, we know that moving also presents some challenges, such as how to store what you need to remove from your home while in the showing and selling process. Those things often include off-season garden tools, bags of soil, fertilizer and even yard decorations and patio furniture. Self-storage is an excellent solution for storing those items in an organized way. Come by Harbour Point Self Storage and check out how our state-of-the-art facility can provide you with the perfect storage unit. We look forward to seeing you!
