Most of our tenants are aware, but here at Lakewood Self Storage we strive to get involved and give back as much as possible. We make an effort to get to know what’s going on in our local community and how we can best give back. I was approached by Easterseals and made aware that they were interested in getting to know more about our industry. Based on our reviews and reputation in our community, they wanted to know more about our approach to storage.
Easterseals or as it used to be known Easter Seals (yes two words) was originally founded in the year 1919. They were founded as a nonprofit that provided services for veterans, seniors, caregivers, and for those with disabilities. This organization focuses on providing support by enhancing health, enriching education, expanding employment and so much more. Yes, I too was under the impression that some seals would be involved but sadly no, however that disappointment quickly faded away once we learned more about them.
The reason for the name came from an early fundraising program. They would sell colorful seals that were the size of regular stamps. They were primarily sold around Easter for postcards. Back in the 1930’s and 1940’s it was a popular trend to send family and loved one’s postcards for major holidays. Kinda like how today parents love to text silly gifs for the holidays to the family group chats.
Working at Lakewood Self Storage can sometimes be misconstrued as simply just customer service and while this is true, it’s also more than just sitting at a desk. Working in storage makes me a leasing agent, manager, maintenance, and sometimes an impromptu counselor. I’m only partially joking about that last part but all in all it’s a multifaceted job. It requires you to be really in tune with your tenants and community. I got to sit down with two representatives from Easterseals and while the initial point to the interview was for them to learn about us, we really got to learn more about what they do. They aim to not just provide a service, but to give back and get involved.

At the heart of Easterseals mission is a wide range of services designed to address the unique needs of its clients.
Inspired To Do More
After meeting with this organization, we at Lakewood became even more motivated to do more to give back to the community. In addition to the 2nd annual Pet drive that we conducted we also for the first time collected school supplies for the Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach. I’m thrilled to share the fantastic results of our recent supply drives at Lakewood Self Storage. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our neighbors and friends, we’ve made a significant impact on those in need.
Community Support and Impact
A huge thank you to everyone who participated. Your donations and support made our drive a resounding success. It’s heartwarming to see how our community comes together to support those who need it most, and this drive was a perfect example of that collective spirit.
During our supply drive, we gathered an impressive number of essential items, including:
- School Supplies: Notebooks, pencils, backpacks, and other classroom necessities that will help students start the school year ready to learn.
- Pet Supplies: Food, toys, bedding, and more, all of which will make a difference for pets in local shelters and for pet owners in need.
The success of these drives is more than just numbers, is about the real impact these donations will have. From equipping students with the tools, they need to succeed academically, to ensuring pets receive the care and comfort they deserve, your contributions are helping to create positive change in our community.
We are incredibly grateful for your involvement and support. We strongly encourage our tenants to learn more about Easterseals and many other local organizations here in Long Beach and Lakewood. If you have any feedback or ideas for future community initiatives, we’d love to hear from you. A very big thank you to Easterseals for giving us the opportunity to learn more about them and for expanding our definition of what being part of the community truly means.
Lastly please come and pay us a visit to how we are getting involved and what great storage options we offer. We look forward to being of service to y’all.
