3 Sundays ago, April 21, I had the pleasure of attending the Pasadena Humane Society's spectacular Wiggle, Waggle, Walk & Run 5k event. This is one of their largest annual fundraisers, with proceeds helping to save the lives of thousands of animals in their community programs. The event drew in a whopping 1,600 participants for this fundraiser extravaganza. There were so many different vendors; as well as many cute pooches that filled Brookside Park near the 5k route of the Rose Bowl Loop!
The event began with the Vendor Fair, which consisted of 70+ pet-friendly vendor booths, including food trucks. The fair ran the entirety of the event; as the 5k participants arrived to register and check in before it began, and after they completed it. All 5K walkers and runners received a Wiggle, Waggle, Walk and Run t-shirt upon check-in (dogs received a bandana). There was even a photo booth available to capture such a momentous event! Also available during the fair was a Training and Agility Course, where all types of doggies could show off their skills!
The 5k began with first an opening ceremony at the Brookside Amphitheater stage; followed by the Sound of the Bugle to initiate the start of the Walk & Run. The route of the 5k was the entire Rose Bowl Loop; which took participants roughly 40mins-1.5hrs to complete. There was also a shorter route for those who wanted a nice and quick walk with their pups. The route was lined with drinking stations for both people and their pets. Afterwards, each participant received a Wiggle, Waggle, Walk and Run 2024 medal for completing the race!
After completing (and spectating) the 5k, everyone was able to enjoy refreshments at the vendor fair. You were able to observe an interesting K-9 detection demonstration held by the Pasadena Police Department. Fair-goers were also able to enter their pooches in the Doggy Costume Contest; which was adorable, as well as competitive! There were so many different costumes that were super creative and hilarious! Of course, we have to highlight our very own, Oliver, and his costume as Oliver Twist! As well as the gentle giant, Tyson, as a cowboy!
All in all, this was a very fun and successful fundraising event that I will look forward to attending in the years to come. A big thanks to Pasadena Humane for putting together such an amazing event; and for doing all they can to help the animals in our community!
