Somewhere between intention and impulse, we found ourselves at ID-Eclair in Pasadena. A French vegan pastry shop, which sounds like a contradiction until you’re standing in front of the display case convincing yourself that a raspberry tart is totally health food. It has fruit on it.

ID-Eclair feels like someone took the idea of a Parisian patisserie and gently removed the guilt. Not the indulgence. Here, everything is plant-based, but nothing feels like it’s asking for forgiveness.

The space itself is restrained in a very intentional way. Clean lines, soft lighting, and the kind of quiet that makes you lower your voice without realizing it. As if dessert deserves a certain level of respect.

They arrived like little declarations of joy. Light pastry shells, smooth custard fillings, and berries arranged with surgical precision with strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries. Each one catching the light like a jewel in a decadent crown.

The first bite slowed everything down. Light, refreshing, just a touch of tang from the custard balancing the sweetness. The kind of dessert that doesn’t overwhelm, it lingers. At some point, we decided we should introduce something “savory” to balance things out. Enter: a slice of vegan pizza. Practical. Responsible. Necessary, even. The salt against the sweet worked better than expected. Or maybe we just needed an excuse to keep going.

ID-Eclair isn’t just a good idea, it’s built on years of experience.

Decades of Tradition in Every Bite

The chef behind it knew early on that pastry was the goal, starting out in his grandfather’s restaurant and sticking with it. From there, he trained and worked in kitchens across France and internationally, picking up techniques and refining his style along the way.

That background shows in every bite.

Everything here feels intentional, just well-executed pastry, adapted to be plant-based without losing what makes it good in the first place. ID-Eclair doesn’t rely on novelty. It doesn’t need to. It re frames what indulgence looks like. Still beautiful, still rich, still a little excessive… just aligned differently.
