We were seated, welcomed with water and tea, and immediately made to feel like regulars.

They knew him, his family, and even neighbors. We were asked for our names and addressed by them throughout the entire visit. A woman seated next to us at the sushi bar chimed in with recommendations, and between her suggestions and one magical sentence “please make my brother's favorite roll for us” we were officially in the club. Sushi Kakogan strikes a beautiful balance. It feels authentic while still leaving room for creativity but never the kind that drifts into gimmick territory. The combinations are thoughtful. I'll start with my husband's choice: the Dragon Roll. It was outstanding. Made with eel and cucumber inside, then topped with avocado and eel sauce, it delivered a perfect combination of textures and flavors. The avocado added a slightly nutty richness, the eel brought a subtle sweetness, and the sauce tied everything together without overpowering it. As for my roll I wish I could name it. It wasn't on the menu. You can tell the chef the flavors you enjoy, and they'll create something just for you. So, my roll, as wonderful as it was, stays unnamed… unless you're me and you simply say, “please make me whatever my brother orders.”  My order was personally curated.

And then there's the atmosphere which truly deserves its own spotlight. I started chatting with a couple seated next to us at the sushi bar. They told me they've been dining there every Friday night for over four years. That says everything. They ordered the Nigiri Combo, and it was beautifully presented each piece of seafood vibrant, fresh, and carefully prepared. When I asked what keeps them coming back, their answer was simple: yes, the food is outstanding but it's the way they’re treated that makes it special. They feel like family.  And you can see it happening all around you. Conversations between staff and regulars. Familiar greetings. Shared stories. Even our waitress asked us to say hello to my brother. Great food may bring you in but connection is what brings you back. And Sushi Kakogan has both.
