Historical Roseville - Pacific Street Café

|

Our next stop in the four-part series covering Historic Roseville is at none other than one of its institutions-The Pacific Street Café! (We are excited to share this blog post, as a follow-up to our recent review of Forescore Coffee, also in Historic Roseville.)

If you want to take a ride back in time and enjoy every second of your meal while doing it, Pacific Street Café is the place you want to go. Pacific Street Café's train-themed restaurant is a great place for all to eat at but for those who love trains, it's the best. From its charming décor to its freshly cooked food, Pacific Street Café has been the favorite of several generations of patrons; with just one stop there, you'll know why.

All Aboard for Everyone to Enjoy!

Situated right next to Union Pacific J.R. Davis switch yard in Historic Roseville, Pacific Street Café is the perfect place for train enthusiasts of all ages to eat! This area of rails handles most of the traffic in northern California and has the reputation of being the largest switching yard west of the Mississippi! You don't have to wonder if you're going to see train action when eating, it's guaranteed to happen. A great feature of where Pacific Street Café for train enthusiasts is the viewing platform that’s a few yards away from the restaurant's front door. This platform is right next to the tracks and about as close as you can get to the trains.

For our family, The Pacific Street Cafe is part of what we do to delight our grandkids. Kids just love the fact that they enter through the front doors and can pull on a rope and hear that classic sound of a train whistle's "phewwww whewwww". But that's just the beginning of the fun for them. One of Pacific Street Café's three eating areas contains a fully loaded train table perfect for kids to play for hours. It's conveniently located in the back corner of an area where kids could play while the rest of the family sits nearby and watches the fun. Pacific Street Café even has a miniature train that travels the restaurant's ceiling line from one room to another. The model train is changed periodically so that little ones never know who is coming around the corner.

Next Stop is Great Food

The food at Pacific Street Café is prepared once you order it so you have a chance to relax and enjoy the welcoming ambiance. If it's breakfast you want, it's served all day. From biscuits made fresh daily to cinnamon roll French toast, breakfast at Pacific Street Café is a big deal. Specialties include Mark's Mess of eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, cheese, potatoes, bell peppers and onions all scrambled together and seasoned to perfection. When you see that go by, you'll put it on your list of must try (and share with someone else too as it's huge). Another breakfast specialty is the chicken fried steak. Anyone that's had it will tell you it's made from scratch the old-fashioned way with high quality tri-tip that's been breaded and battered by hand. But if breakfast isn't your thing, other fare is equally as amazing! From a variety of salads served with freshly baked bread to the famous meatloaf sandwich that has diners coming back for more, everything is satisfying and fresh. You can't go wrong no matter what you try. Our grandkids always order chicken strips and fries from the kid's menu. The strips are large, well-seasoned pieces of chicken breast with a light batter that’s a miniature version of the adult chicken strips meal. The adult version comes with a side of coleslaw that is so good, it makes you wish you'd had asked for a double serving of it! Just the right balance of creaminess, sweetness, tartness and crunchiness. Of course, if you're in the mood for a burger, there are plenty of those to choose from. There's more than one special burger but the one that is the biggest favorite is the Patty Melt. It's a well-seasoned 8-ounce beef patty topped with melted cheese and grilled onions on slices of whole grain rye bread. Good luck on finishing this.

Fantastic Service Coming Your Way

One of the many pleasures of eating at the Pacific Street Café is receiving the friendly customer service you get at a family-owned restaurant. The wait staff is always warm and attentive. No matter how busy the restaurant gets, the wait staff treats everyone as if they're the only ones in dining there that day. It's not unusual to overhear a conversation between a waitress and a diner that sounds like an exchange between friends. Kids are treated with the same friendly attitude as everyone else dining at Pacific Street Café. The atmosphere is as satisfying to the soul as the food is to the stomach.
