I am a big fan of BBQ. I can eat ribs or steak or even tri tip for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But what’s Mongolian BBQ?
I will be the first to admit it, my taste palette was not very adventurous when I was younger but now that I’m growing older, I’m trying to put myself out there and try new things. So when the opportunity came to try Mongolian BBQ, I thought to myself, why not?
Last week we celebrated my wife’s birthday by going to her choice of restaurant for dinner, which was the GK Mongolian BBQ restaurant on Sylvan in Modesto, California
Welcoming Atmosphere
The atmosphere felt like any other hole in the wall Asian cuisine restaurant, but with a somewhat American twist. It’s similar to how Subway operates, where you build your sandwich by individually selecting each ingredient. Mongolian barbecue has that DIY conveyor belt style selection that you use to create your bowl of noodles.
If you want nothing but meat and noodles, you could fill your bowl with nothing but meat and noodles. Or if you’re vegetarian, you can have just veggies. If you’re like me, I wanted some meat, noodles, corn and maybe a little bit of broccoli.
I felt somewhat modern as well because they had bright neon custom signs that you would see in a fro-yo shop or a more hip bakery found downtown, and this was definitely a cool place for a date night.

A Fantastic Dinner Experience
As for the pricing, it really wasn’t that bad for us two and my two friends that came along, it was just under $70, and let me not forget to mention that it was all you can eat! That’s right, all you can eat (in one setting) and if you don’t finish your first bowl, you can take it home, but if you start a second one you can’t take that home.
Overall, for the amount of food that we all got, our drinks, and the free wontons we had, it was a great experience and the food itself was fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend checking out GK Mongolian BBQ and will most likely go back for dinner sometime this month.
Pro Tip
My friends that had joined us gave us a pro tip that actually made a lot of sense. I was unaware of the second bowl rule that I previously mentioned (being that you can’t take home your leftovers after your second bowl), but my friend revealed you should pack as much as you physically can into your first bowl. Then, you can take it home and finish the rest instead of having to go back and make another bowl that cannot be taken home.
I had noticed that my wife’s and my bowls were not nearly as filled as our friends, but after they explained that, it made total sense. I finished my bowl and was too full to start a second bowl, but I would’ve definitely eaten more when I got home or even the following day if I still had some.
Not knowing that Mongolian BBQ was an all you can eat made the deal and meal 100x better! Speaking of great deals, our summer time sale here at Turlock Self Storage is here! With our “1st Year Price Guarantee” you will have peace of mind knowing that we will not increase your rent during the first year of your stay and our leases are month-to-month.
Overall, I highly recommend visiting GK Mongolian BBQ next time you’re feeling hungry! As a proud member of the community, we at Turlock Self Storage love sharing discoveries about our neighboring towns and invite you to stop by our storage facility.
