Located on Geer Road, actually right next door to Sunshine Donuts here in Turlock, Carnivore's BBQ & Sandwich Shop stands out as a top-tier barbecue spot in the Central Valley. With a menu that promises a carnivorous lunch or dinner, this eatery has become my local favorite shop. I used to go here during my lunch breaks and I never left disappointed.
Ambiance
As you step into Carnivore’s, you step into an almost man-cave-like decor, coupled with the savory scent of slow-cooked meats, creating an environment that transports patrons to a backyard barbecue joint. I say man cave-like decor because they have these neat benches made of classic truck tailgates. They also have old school tin signs, so those and the checkerboard tiles on the walls, add a nice classic touch to the place. The friendly staff creates the welcoming ambiance that this shop is known for and they make it the perfect spot for both solo diners and families alike.
The Menu
Carnivore's menu is filled with carefully crafted sandwiches that cater to meat lovers who know exactly what they want. From my favorite, the traditional pulled pork, to succulent brisket, each item on their menu is prepared with a dedication to great ingredients and flavor.
1. The MAZZY'S MAYHEM: The Mazzy’s Mayhem delivers a spicy kick, a combination of smoked tri-tip, pulled pork and grilled pastrami with jalapenos. To top it off, they add cheddar cheese, House Sauce, cheese sauce and more jalapeños, it crafts a delectable masterpiece. I don’t do spicy too well with heat but my friends that have tried this one highly recommend trying it next time I go.
2. The BIG KAHUNA: This one’s on my list because of the unique combo of grilled pineapple, bacon and pulled pork, served with mayo, provolone and BBQ sauce. My wife and I visit Maui about once or twice a year and I have to say, this one definitely has that Hawaiian flavor because over there, they use a lot of pork so this is a nice touch of “home away from home.”
3. The VEGGIE MELT: I haven’t personally tried one of these but my coworker talks very highly of it. It’s packed with a nice house spread, grilled sweet peppers, onions and mushrooms. It’s then topped off with provolone that definitely makes you feel like you made a healthy choice. Not to be outdone by its pork and beef counterparts, Carnivore’s Veggie Melt is a crowd-pleaser.
